Can someone please explain the point of these signs? Am I supposed to drive more carefully because you may have a baby in your car? "I was going to smash right into your rear bumper, but since I see you have a Baby on Board sign on your car, I will suddenly become a better driver and avoid hitting you." Is that the thought process? Are they implying that it's ok to hit a car with adults in it? I don't get it.

You are working under the assumption that parents - especially new ones - are rational. Big mistake. We'd bubble-wrap our cars and put an electric force field around them if we could.
Those signs are handy if you look at them as a warning like, "Caution, Irrational, Sleep Deprived, Distracted Driver Behind the Wheel, Who is Most Likely Driving One Handed with the Other Reaching in Back to Find a Dropped Pacifier"
I have often wondered the same thing about those signs!
Ok, that makes sense. I guess I should treat these kind of like "Student Driver" signs? Avoid at your own risk!
